Facts last verified on 3 November 2026
- The Supreme Court of Victoria says some estates can be finalised without a grant, but a grant is always required if your loved one owned real estate solely or as a tenant in common (Supreme Court: grants of probate and administration).
- You apply online through RedCrest-Probate, and the court's guide says the notice of intention to apply must be published at least 15 days before applying (court guide: how to apply).
- From 1 July 2026 the standard grant fee depends on the gross value of Victorian assets: A$0 under A$250,000, rising to A$17,770.80 for A$7 million or more. The RedCrest-Probate notice is A$38 (court fees from 1 July 2026). Fees change each 1 July, so check the court's current schedule before filing.
- For deaths from 1 July 2026 to 30 June 2027, the Probate Office's small estates service covers estates up to A$137,210, for a fee of A$285 plus the A$38 notice (small estates).
- Land Use Victoria lists an Application by Legal Personal Representative (s 49) and an Application by Surviving Proprietor (s 50), and since 28 November 2025 individuals can lodge these themselves (Land Use Victoria forms).
- VicRoads asks for the deceased estate transfer form within 90 days of becoming the authorised representative (VicRoads: deceased estates).

Time limits: flags, not calculators
Section 99 of the Administration and Probate Act 1958 (Vic) says a family provision application must be made within 6 months after the date of the grant, and section 99A protects a personal representative who distributes properly after that time without notice of a claim (last verified 3 November 2026). The court can extend the time. The add-on shows these as flags with their sources, not as calculated deadlines. Please confirm with a lawyer before distributing anything.
Questions
Is the VIC Add-on part of the Complete Pack?
No. It is a separate product. The Complete Pack contains the Workbook, the Letter Pack and the Beneficiary Pack.
Do I need the Workbook as well?
The add-on works on its own, but it is designed to sit beside the Workbook, which holds the main asset, debt and contact records for the estate.
Does it tell me what the law requires?
No. It is a record-keeping template with links to the official Victorian pages and the date we checked each one. For advice about your situation, speak to a Victorian lawyer, a trustee company or State Trustees.
